THREE WEEKS Until We Hit the Skies!

Baton Rouge, LA. (October 8, 2022) - We are right at three weeks until we depart for Washington, D.C.

We are happy to report that we are finalizing our preparations for the October 29th flight. This will be our biggest flight yet, with 35 Veterans and their Guardians being honored with an action-packed day in Washington, D.C.

We are still reaching out to our final few Veterans and Guardians this weekend and will be pushing out additional information in the coming days. If you are interested in being part of the special day, stay tuned for updates to Facebook and our website (www.honorflightlouisiana.org) for how you can participate!

First Series of Veterans Contacted for Fall Flight

Baton Rouge, LA. (August 5, 2022) – With the gracious help of the amazing ladies at Louisiana Women Veterans, we made our first round of phone calls to solidify spots on the October 29th flight. We are happy to report that, while the COVID-19 pandemic may have impacted our ability to fly, it did NOT impact the enthusiasm of our veterans!

We have gone through all of our World War II and Korean War veterans so far and have begun contacting the first of a long list of Vietnam veterans. We ask for your patience as we work through our list, return voicemail messages, and accommodate other World War II and Korean War veterans who may apply between now and our next round of phone calls.

We anticipate the next series of phone calls to take place after August 15th. Stay close to your phone and check your dates in October for when we call!

Updates On October 29 Flight

Baton Rouge, LA. (July 15, 2022) –Honor Flight Louisiana is happy to announce that planning for the flight this October is well underway. After cancellation of our originally scheduled return flight on April 30, our team is anxious to resume our mission of flying “Louisiana’s Best” to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials.

The October flight will mark just over three years since Honor Flight Louisiana has hit the skies. Having completed our last flight in early October of 2019, COVID-19 and related issues have caused a hold on flights and, most recently, a cancellation. We are eager to once again honor Louisiana’s World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans.

While our team has solidified a flight out of New Orleans and secured a spot at Arlington National Cemetery, there is much more to be done to make the trip successful. More information will be made available to the public in the coming weeks through an official press release. We will also be reaching out soon to all of our potential participants (Veterans and Guardians) so they may begin preparing for the flight.

Until then, please feel free to reach out to us at info@honorflightlouisiana.org with any questions or concerns you may have!

Rotolo’s Locations and Honor Flight Teaming up for our Veterans

Baton Rouge, LA. (October 25, 2021) – Rotolo’s Franchise Partners and the Rotolo’s Foundation have partnered with Honor Flight to Raise Some Dough. This fundraiser will provide Veterans the opportunity to visit the memorials that stand in their honor. The Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for their sacrifices. They transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill. Time is of the essence. As the last of the Greatest Generation approach their final curtain call, we embrace the precious opportunity to help provide them a once in a lifetime experience.

We Need Your Help and Support to reach our goal of $30,000.  This donation will aid Honor Flight in providing approximately 30 Veterans this unique experience.  Please join us at the Rotolo’s location nearest you on November 8, 2021 for a dine in or to go order and 20% of NET PROCEEDS will be donated to Honor Flight. A full list of Rotolo’s locations is available at: https://rotolos.com/locations

In early January 2017, a group of MBA students at Louisiana State University got together to discuss an idea for serving and giving back. This group of students varied in age, hometown, and occupation, but all had one thing in common – a desire to serve our veterans. Together, they picked up where Louisiana Honor Air left off in 2011 and formed “Honor Flight Louisiana”, Louisiana's first official hub in the larger Honor Flight Network. Honor Flight Louisiana Statement on 2021 Flight Season

FLIGHTS POSTPONED UNTIL 2022

After lengthy discussions, the Honor Flight Louisiana Board of Directors has elected to postpone any flights until at least spring of 2022. As you can imagine, this was not an easy decision for us to make, as we lost the 2020 and 2021 flying seasons to COVID-19 as well.

The decision was made in response to COVID-19 guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and trip requirements from the Honor Flight Network nationwide.

Numerous COVID-related health and safety measures have been implemented by the Honor Flight Network for 2021. All affiliated hubs must comply with these measures in order to resume trips. These extensive requirements are necessary to protect the health of all Honor Flight mission trip participants, including our senior Americans.

Honor Flight Louisiana believes these requirements will diminish the experience for our Veterans throughout a very active trip itinerary. Additionally, there remains uncertainty regarding access to some of our important sites/locations normally visited in Washington, D.C. With the rise of the delta variant, this uncertainty has been exasperated.

Our goal, and sincere hope, is to fly again as soon as spring 2022 with fewer or no limitations due to COVID-19 safety protocols. Our existing wait lists will be preserved, and we continue to accept new applications. We thank everyone for your understanding and continued support.
