A Guardian serves as a trained, traveling companion to our Honor Flight participants, many of whom are aged in the upper 80's and 90's.

Guardians are essential to the success of every Honor Flight.  Without these patriotic volunteers we would not be able to carry out the dreams of so many Veterans, enabling them to see the memorials built in their honor.

From the moment the veterans are in our hands until we return them to their loved ones in the evening, Guardians will be asked to treat these heroes as if they are family and ensure that every Veteran has a safe, memorable, and rewarding experience.

Our Guardians play such a significant role. Honor Flight Louisiana will provide training to those individuals chosen to receive the honor of becoming a Guardian.

During this training we will be covering the obvious safety and health concerns and just as importantly how to ensure that each Veteran has the best trip he or she possibly can.

Some Guardian Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and one generation younger than WWII Veterans (exceptions must be approved by Board of Directors)

  • Must be able to lift 100 pounds

  • Pay Guardian Fee of typically $550 (as of August 23, 2019)

  • Priority given to Guardians with medical training and to family members of chosen Veterans

IMPORTANT: All prospective Guardian Candidates MUST attend Guardian Training PRIOR to going on a Honor Flight with a Veteran.
